Vicki Gray
Vicki Gray was born in Ontario, Canada, but currently calls the Netherlands home. It’s there that she’s created an accomplished career for herself as one of Europe’s few female motorcycle racers. Vicki received her first motorcycle license in 1983. She soon became a certified motorcycle instructor teaching in Toronto with the Ministry of Transportation and went on to open her own motorcycle riding school “Pro Rider,” located in St. Maarten, Netherlands, in 1991. In 1999, Vicki’s racing career began to take off when she achieved her Race License and became totally addicted to the sport of motorcycle racing. Since then, she’s become a respected fixture in the Dutch Race scene and can be seen on the world famous Grand Prix Assen TT circuit, Zolder in Belgium, Zandvoort and others, speeding by with blonde ponytail, tucked behind her windscreen under her lucky race number 73 battling for the podium. Along side her own passion for motorcycle sport, Vicki founded and is the director of Foundation RaceGirl MotorSport (www.racegirl.nl), whose aim is two fold: To encourage female motorcycle riders in MotorSport; demonstrating the fact that NO LIMITS exist for women; and to enhance the skills of the already licensed Motorcycle Rider. The foundation amoung its many activities, also raises money and supports Women’s shelters in the Netherlands, providing support and encouragement . Vicki writes articles for Dutch magazines regarding tips to riding, racing and mechanics; she is often written about in popular European magazines as her combination of femininity and roughness on the track is not a common one to see. Vicki believes there is no reason to give up anything in order to achieve, and certainly no way a woman has to become a man to ride like one! Vicki’s garage is full of race bikes. And although she tends to race souped up Ducati’s, Honda’s and her Husqvarna two-stroke, she’s as comfortable on a HOG as she is on one of her favourite race bikes. Recently, she’s trekked across the Netherlands, Italy and the French Alps on her Italian choice sportbike. When Vicki isn’t racing, cruising, or off-roading, she’s making her living as an account manager in the telecommunications field. She also enjoys scuba diving, sports, and travelling throughout Europe. You will find her doing most anything that is thrilling and fast!” The way she takes on the racetrack is in keeping with the way she runs her life. “Believe in your dreams... believe in yourself... and the only limits that exist, are those that you give yourself.” |
